About the project

RESTORE is committed to transforming the remanufacturing landscape by developing sustainable processes, materials and digital tools. By considering the challenges of remanufacturing implementation, RESTORE will contribute significantly to the transition towards Circular Economy, fostering a more sustainable and resource-efficient industrial sector through a variety of activities.

Challenges

Remanufacturing plays a crucial role in today’s pursuit of Circular Economy. However, implementing successful remanufacturing within an industrial value chain is very challenging due to the process optimisation, design considerations, and business model adaptation involved. The RESTORE project addresses those challenges.

Solutions

RESTORE will introduce sustainable by-design remanufacturing processes and materials, alongside supporting tools for the digitisation of the remanufacturing ecosystem or value chain.

The project focuses on advancing promising state-of-the-art cladding technologies, including laser direct energy deposition (DED) and plasma transfer arc (PTA), tailored for sustainable remanufacturing applications. To enhance deposition rates for large-scale applications, the project aims to develop a novel hybrid process combining DED and PTA.

Expected results

RESTORE seeks to produce wire feedstock with recycled content and design a wire feeding system integrated with an auxiliary feeding system to directly transfer machining swarf or unused powder into the melt pool. This innovative approach will pave the way for zero-waste remanufacturing technology at a reduced cost.

The platform will foster greater traceability, transparency, and efficiency in the remanufacturing process, empowering stakeholders to make informed decisions and optimise their operations. The digital collaborative space will serve as a centralised hub for data sharing and collaboration, promoting informed decision-making and guiding the optimal remanufacturing of industrial products and components.
